The book is riddled with grammatical errors and is hard to follow. I also found syntax errors with some of the code samples in the book. If your goal is to learn Java, I would look elsewhere.I did however like how the topics were laid out.

This book set is ideal to learn all the basics of programming. Well written and full of practical examples that makes learning much easier. Highly recommend this book set.

I hade recently picked up "The Catcher in The Rye" as I missed it in school, I think maybe our school was one of the ones that banned it. Anyway, I picked up the catcher to see what all the hype was about, I was kind of disappointed. Sorry, I just do not get what all the fuss and fan fair is about. But "Of Mice And Men", This is a great book. One of my favorites, Right behind Robinson Crusoe. \This book looks much like the picture but mine is more worn, has a little wear on the edges of the cover and the pages have that aged tea stained color and it smells old, Just the way I love em. Mine is actually from 1947.

I'm working my way through these books, and always look forward to a new one. They are great for the intermediate crossworder or for when I don't want to think too much. Some are easy, some harder, some just fun. I like that the pages are perforated to tear out so that it is easier to do the puzzles on the left side in the first half, and the puzzles on the right side in the second half. I just wish there were fewer "quote" puzzles.

This review is a work in progress. I have the 1953 book with an introduction by Joseph Henry Jackson. I found the introduction by Mr. Jackson to be very instructive and enjoyable. However it may be for more a student than the casual reader.My book is from The Viking Press. It contains six short novels. They are mostly chronological in the order that John Steinbeck published them. The one exception is that the first short novel in the book is "Tortilla Flat". The second is "The Red Pony". These were composed, I think, in the opposite order. Mr. Jackson explains this. These are followed by "Of Mice and Men", "The Moon Is Down", "Cannery Row", and "The Pearl".I read "The Red Pony First". There is a lot in "The Red Pony" which reminds me "Of Mice and Men". It is episodic. The first episode is "The Gift", which is about a child Jody, and his pony. It is beautiful, poignant, and ultimately painful. The second episode is "The Great Mountains". It actually is about a visitor to the same ranch that is the setting for first story. Jody and his family are in this story, along with an elderly visitor. The next episode is "The Promise" which is, more or less, a sequel to the first story. It is somewhat painful. The last episode is "The Leader of The People" which is a bittersweet story about a senior citizen member of the same family at the ranch. It is my personal favorite episode.I completely enjoyed this novella "Of Mice And Men". It is a relatively short work. It was written in 1937, before The Grapes of Wrath. I had previously read The Grapes of Wrath. I enjoyed this book more. I have very little formal education in regard to literature. So my opinion may be very faulty. Anyway, I felt this work was a more artistic work than The Grapes of Wrath.This work reminded me more of Ermest Hemingway. I was very impressed. As is common with many shorter works, the author leaves a lot of questions unanswered. The reader is left to speculate why certain issues develope and are resolved in certain manners. I felt all the aspects of the relationship between George and Lenny were slightly unclear. The book ended with me wishing I knew more about George. My guess is that is intentional on the part of Mr. Steinbeck.I would like to note that I purchased this "Of Mice and Men" on Kindle and at the same time purchased the audiobook narrated by Gary Sinise. I felt Mr. Sinise was really excellent and I highly recommend the audiobook version as read by Mr. Sinise. Mr. Sinise really added to the pleasure of the reading experience with his very professional performance.

I own most of the Simon & Schuster Mega Crossword Puzzle books ... and this is the most recent one I ordered. Up to now I have thoroughly enjoyed working them ... but I don't recommend buying this book. The puzzles aren't nearly as good as the later issues. Too many big words I never heard of and/or clues that don't make sense ... and the answers in the back of the book are HORRIBLE! They are so tiny it takes a magnifying glass to make them out. (and my eyesight isn't that bad)Thankfully all the other books in this series have been hugely improved over this first one they issued. Buy the rest ... skip this one.

Gary Sinise is the reader, which is a nice touch. I bought this audio for use in my classroom, which saves my voice. While Sinise does a great job, there are some drawbacks for using in the classroom:The CDs are not labeled with chapters and times. I originally thought there would be 2 chapters per cd but once chapter 2 ended, chapter 3 started, so this isn't the case. I can't speak for the other CDs, and perhaps this was a space issue, but a little annoying. In addition, I use the audio in different classes who are sometimes in different parts of the book, and having a Table of Contents sheet inside the box or on each CD would be great. Instead, I have to figure out what number track I have to skip to by stopping and listening if I didn't pay attention before and write down the track or time stamp during the previous reading (this can be easily forgotten if we get sidetracked or if I have to divert my attention elsewhere, which, with over 25 kids in a class, happens all the time).Sinise does a nice job lending voice to the different characters but some students find his narration boring (teenagers!), but that's subjective. He maintains an calm, monotone voice throughout the reading.Overall, if you're buying this for personal use than I would definitely recommend it; however, if you're a teacher than you may have the same issues I do. Not a deal breaker, but annoying that Penguin did not include something I thought was a given.

Cannery Row by John SteinbeckI guess I never realized how much writing technique has changed over the years. This book make me understand the difference between then and now. It is all about a bunch of misplaced men making do with what little they have and being happy, not drowning in sorrow. Helping each other even if not totally understanding that other person. I enjoyed the book and recommend it for non-mystery readers.

I first ran across Tess Masters searching for a watermelon gazpacho recipe. It was so outstanding, I pre-ordered this book hoping for more exceptional, healthy (often blender-utilizing) recipes.So far, I've made the sweet potato and macadamia magic (soup), sustenance stew, roasted veggies with tarragon, celeriac slaw, minty peas please (soup), and Tom Kha. The sweet potato and macadamia magic was exceptional, perfect healthy comfort food that didn't require much active time in the kitchen. I liked everything I've made thus far... except for the Tom Kha. But it's sort of my fault.Since I've been craving Tom Kha for a while now, I picked that recipe as my first test. It wasn't great; the soup was gritty and an unappealing murky brown. Lemongrass isn't something I habitually cook with - it is rather difficult to find in the supermarkets where I live. Other times I've made Tom Kha, the recipe simply had the lemongrass stalk placed into the simmering soup and later removed. This time, it went into the paste, and I didn't remove the outer layer since I didn't realize it needed to be done. There was no instruction to do so, no note, no see-page-X within the recipe (nor within the green curry recipe). I've since found a little note on page 173 (something else with lemongrass) that instructs the reader to do exactly that (and then a little more work) in order to use fresh lemongrass. It's nice that the directions are in here somewhere, but the other recipes that use lemongrass should refer the reader to that guidance.One other quibble I have about this book is its organization. The book is subdivided into:Energy, Immunity, Detox, Protein, Weight Loss, Anti-Inflammatory, Fabulous Fats, Low Carb, Alkaline Forming, Probiotic Promoting, Well Combined, and Feed the Soul.There's no way for me to flip open this cookbook and quickly find a recipe when I'm in the mood for soup or a smoothie or a salad. The index contains all the recipes (of course), but there's no categorization within the index, just names. I suppose I understand some of the logic to the organization, but I bought this cookbook for the healthy recipes themselves, so I wish there was a more logical layout with sidebars telling me what subdivision the author thinks her recipe falls into.All in all, if you have a reasonably high-powered blender at home and are looking for some well-balanced, flavorful, nutritious, simple, vegetarian recipes ... the Perfect Blend is a great addition to your cookbook library.

I loved her first book. This one is just as beautiful. I wish it had more information (like the previous one). One of my favorite things about "Blender Girl" was that I learned a lot and it was a great guide on a health journey.The recipes are not so simple, most take time and a lot of ingredients/steps/lots of washing!! It's nice for sometimes but not every day cooking.

A great way to get the max value out of your blender!!!! It’s especially good for those trying to get their New Year’s resolutions for a healthier diet. This is a great find for people on plant-based diets and gluten-free diets. The only small issue may be getting some of the ingredients if you live in a small town but with access to the Internet finding those products should not be very difficult. A well written recipe for good health overall.

Not nearly as good as the first cookbook. Some recipies are too involved and the end result is just mediocre.

I bought both of the Adobe Captivate 9 books - The Essentials and Beyond the Essentials. I highly recommend these books for anyone that wants to learn Captivate 9. You don't just read about how to use Captivate, you actually follow well thought out modules that provide hands-on activities.

This exercise book is worthwhile for anyone who wants to learn some of the more intermediate features provided in Captivate 9. Exercises are thorough and (with the exception of one inaccessible, expired exercise file) has thoughtful, well documented exercises and sample files. The chapters on Actions, Responsive Projects and Reporting Results were especially useful. I've taken all of the available tutors on Captivate at Lynda.com and many of Adobe's tutors. This book offered useful information that was not available at either of those resources.

Lots of typos. Author seemed like he wanted to feed off of the success of his previous book so a lot of info in this book is gratuitous. There were some helpful parts but when it got to uploading to an LMS, it turned into a sales pitch. Very disappointed because it could have been so much better.

Fantastic book! Very easy to follow and learn. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn the more moderately advanced features of Captivate 9.

The two books in this series made sense and gave me a firm understanding of the basics of Adobe Captivate. The hands-on exercises were practical and well laid out to take you through the training.

Excellent book - it really helped me out! Clearly written and easy to understand - loved it!

About the Author

Great memory tool. Will take time to learn thoroughly, but we will keep at it. I love this kind of thing. Mneumonics with pictures. It doesn't get better. My kids and I agree...we would take the free Cauliflower with a Sack of Mementos purchase. (Sacramento, California)

We loved The Little Man In the Map so much we were really looking forward to this one. We were a little disappointed, it lacks the same illustration and vibrancy that we loved in the original. It still has clever ways of trying to memorize, just not as riveting and endearing as the States one.

Loved how the author rhymed and described the states. We home school and do Classical Conversations, its a great companion to Cycle 3.

Wonderful teaching tool! My teacher friend's 5th grade boys loved it so much, they were inspired to have competitions to see who could learn the states in record time. Best of all, they were able to retain what they learned.. .

This book is good, not as good as "Yo, Sacramento!" But we can't figure out for the life of us why it is called the Little Man in the Map? He makes absolutely no appearance in the whole book except on the cover. So don't think this is a companion to "The Little Man in the Map" book about where the states are located.

Good book but not nearly as memorable as the MIM states book.

My high school ESL students enjoyed the strategies in this book, and some found success for the first time in memorizing important information in English.

Awesome supplement to the Man in the Map state book i use them to teach states and capitals in my 5th grade classroom.
