What you are getting is more of a history of geography and NOT a study of where States, Continents, Contries, Oceans, etc are located and what types of land masses might exist in said locations, ie Rockies, Alps, Caspian Sea, Amazon, Cape of Good Hope, etc. It's not that kind of geography book. They don't teach geography in Texas anymore. It's not part of our "core". I guess our GPS can tell where we are....ppppffffttt. It does have maps in the back but I would have liked to have seen something a little different.

I'm a but disappointed in this book.An entire chapter dedicated to Islam but no mention of Buddhist, Hinduism, or Christianity and how those religions shaped the regions they are from.I certainly dont mind teaching about other religions but when teaching on WORLD RELIGIONS why was only one mentioned?

This really helped my son he was struggling and only learning around a 4th grade level these books were great!

The lessons are good but the questions are not clear in what they are asking. I feel it is really confusing to teach from this book.

The Spectrum curriculum is always a good base for my homeschooler. I like the material and the workbook feel to it. Not every subject is in depth but I like doing a little research to add to some of the topics. This way I can tailor to my child's interests and our values.

I thought there would be more info in here that I could use.. but really it's just an overview of world geography... I won't be using it... I love all the Spectrum books, but I think you can just find more online than use this for 6th grade geography... Not what I was looking for.

Awesome activities to for the new Tennessee social studies state standards. Can't wait to get started this year with it.

I have read four of Ann Rule's books and have them as a permanent place in my true crime library. I took a chance on this one before any reviews had been posted and admit to having struggled. There were so many people to try to keep track of due to the numerous divorces, remarriages, and children involved. However, I do have to admire Ann Rule for her ability to keep all of these people straight throughout the book. I did read through the book through but I don't think I will keep this one as a permanent part of my crime library.

Ann Rule is an amazing author and I've loved most of her books. This one, however, was the story of a too complicated crime and investigation. To give her credit, she does warn readers several times that the investigation was very complicated, over many years, and covered many different states. The warning was not enough...she should have passed on this one for a book!Because you have had to slog through so many pages and so many different suspects (and too much detail on non-suspects), it's tiresome and you start to not really care who did it.If you are looking for a good true-crime book, pick one of her other ones.

I love Ann Rule's books but this one was very hard forme to get through. It seemed as though the same informationwas repeated page after page after page. I was verydisappointed. Usually, Ann Rule's books keep me up at night.Not this one. I had a hard time picking it up once I put it down.I will return it for a refund $10.00 is too much to pay for a bookthat is so boring. I skipped several chapters and didn't' miss a thing.

I am a huge Ann Rule fan, but I'm starting to waiver. Her last 2 books have been sorely disappointing. I just finished this book and I still have no idea why it was written. There is no resolution, no motive, no plot. I am very confused why this story was ever written. It has no "hook." And it certainly has no "The Stranger Beside Me" or "Small Sacrifices" grab. Very disappointing.

I love reading books in the true crime genre. Without a doubt, Ann Rule is the doyenne of the genre. She is a thorough researcher and understands police procedure. Her books are, for the most part, informative, chock full of detail, and engaging. While this book was informative and thoroughly researched, it did not draw me in. The book might have been better served by tighter editing. The lumbering pace was also a bit of a slog.The Christmas time murder of Russell Douglas took place on Whidby Island in Puget Sound, right off the coast of Washington State. Shot to death in his car, it was clear from the inception that foul play was afoot. The only question was who done it?The answer did not come easily, and it would take many years before anyone would be charged. The wheels of justice did, indeed, grind slowly. The author painstakingly takes the reader through the investigation and the evidence. The book also contains many illustrative photos. The only thing left for the reader to decide whether justice was done.I have to say this was not one of my favorite true crime reads. Still, fans of the true crime genre should get some satisfaction from reading it.

I really tried to like this book, but it was difficult. I found it repetitive and meandering. The structure made no sense, and the way the "plot" was revealed was slower than it had to be. For example, the author jumps around (through time) so much while talking about Peggy Sue Stackhouse's family BEFORE SHE WAS EVEN BORN, that she frequently seems to say the same thing, as if reminding herself where she was going. It got distracting, and I would have preferred a simple, linear progress, if indeed the family history was necessary, which it really wasn't. A huge chunk of the book was spent in discussing The Stackhouse's family tragedy, which had nothing to do with this case, so it really seemed as if the author was padding the covers BECAUSE there was no discernible motive. "We don't know why Peggy or Jim killed Russ, so all we can do is talk about Peggy's family prior to her birth" instead of addressing in any meaningful way Brenna's family life, why Peggy would have worked so hard to convince Jim that a man he'd never met needed to die. If you don't have enough info to talk about the case in question, then why write the book? The story is utterly uncompelling.Then there were the couple of errors I found, even getting the victim's name wrong in witness quotes. I don't know what she was thinking with this book, but reading it was annoying as hell. I just kept saying, why are we all of a sudden talking about so-and-so's high school life when we were just talking about their college a second ago, or their infancy? Why have you mentioned fifteen times that one person had bad dreams because of their mother's death? We got it! It doesn't need to be in every friggin paragraph about this person! And so forth.It was really difficult to enjoy, and frankly, put me to sleep several times.

This is the fifth book in the HiLo series. My son and I both read these and really love them, we buy them immediately when they release. This latest installment was very fun and we both loved it.In this book we get to journey back to HiLo’s home world and finally learn what really happened there. Meanwhile back on earth, a robot D.J. and HiLo are causing all sorts of trouble at school, while the government continues their efforts to track down “comet-boy”.This story was a little more spread out than previous books. We jump between Earth and HiLo’s home world. I love the quirkiness and humor in these books, they always make me laugh. I also enjoy the creativity, brightly colored illustrations, the characters, and the story.Overall this was a fantastic addition to the HiLo series and I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here. I would recommend to those who enjoy funny, action packed science fiction graphic novels.

Judd winick, you are my hero! I love hilo so much, I dressed up as him for halloween. Whenever I finish reading a hilo book for the first time, I cry because I really want to know what happens next! Thank you so much for putting your time, effort, and OUTSTANDING-NESS in to al of the hilo books. Keep writing! Toby

My kids received this book today, and separately almost have it finished. They love the Hilo series, and this one definitely lives up to the hype. I think I just received the mom of the year award for preordering this book!

This book was amazing in every way with the plot twists and new information. but why izzy whyyyyyyyy! thatt all i will tell you, think about the end when you read it.

My son is 7 years old. He has been reading the previous Hilo book series. He has been read it over and over again since he get the book yesterday.

The 5th Hilo book certainly did not disappoint! My kiddos love it as much as the previous 4 and are already asking when the next comes out. Hilo will always hold a special place in my heart because these were the first books my child with dyslexia willingly read and enjoyed. He actually introduced the series to his brother and sister(neither of whom has dyslexia), and they loved them too. Can't wait for the next one!

My son is not a huge fan of reading. But this series of Hilo books have him hooked. Finished it in one day!

I just don’t like the cliff hanger and it is way to short it is way shorter than the others
