Review
“BEWARE: This book will have a profound impact on your working practices and the results you’ll achieve. Eat That Frog! challenges your working practices, it explains the self-discipline needed to succeed, and [it] firmly gets to the root cause of why people procrastinate. Then it effortlessly explains how to boost your productivity once and for all.” —Micro Business Hub “If you find procrastination to be a consistent problem in your life, Eat That Frog! offers a concise and valuable collection of tactics to try. The reasons for each person’s procrastination are different, so it’s good that Tracy’s tactics are fairly diverse and attack many different avenues of procrastination.” —The Simple Dollar “Eat That Frog! is my favourite book on productivity, and I often find myself rereading it in January to remind myself of the disciplines and practices I’d like to follow in the coming year. Each time I read the book, I find new nuggets of productivity gold.” —Liz Gooster, Change for the Better “Everyone has a frog, and eating that frog is the best thing you can do to stop procrastinating. Procrastination is a time-killer, and Tracy has a way of making getting over that frog fun and exciting. Every chapter presents a new idea, tip, and technique that will help you overcome that inner laziness that keeps you on the couch at night instead of in the gym.” —Peanut Press “Eat That Frog!, small in pages but huge in content, offers a cure for the curse of modern-day living: procrastination. Even though the medicine sounds painful (bush tucker trail kind of stuff), it isn’t. Like you, I have read zillions of books—and most of the time I can’t remember anything that I have just read. Not with this one. I’m eating frogs daily and feeling better for it! I can’t recommend Eat That Frog! enough.” —Corinna Richards, The Coaching Academy “This book gave me the kick in the pants I needed to organize my to do lists, plan my days, become more productive, and get focused.” —Beth Anne Schwamberger, Brilliant Business Moms “Eat That Frog! is the most accessible book on time management and personal productivity—I recommend you read this one before you learn any particular time management system. There are tons of exercises and techniques that you can implement right away, and that is what I like the most about the book—it gives you actionable steps so you can start right away.” —Thanh Pham, Asian Effi ciency “An impactful read. The 21 ways that [Tracy] shares are real game changers, if you read with an eye towards self-improvement and an intention to make a change. I have benefi ted greatly from this book, and I highly recommend that you pick up your own copy today.” —Chris Moore, Reflect on This “We strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to manage her time well and also add value to herself in this competitive world.” —The Journal of Applied Christian Leadership “I wasn’t expecting all that much from the book initially, as the whole ‘eating a frog’ seemed like some new age nonsense that didn’t really apply in real life. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The best thing about this book is that it actually tells you what you should do. It doesn’t just spout philosophy after philosophy about dreams and hope. It gives solid, practical advice that applies to pretty much every one—students, employees, stay-at-home moms, entrepreneurs, etc. Whether you’re having time management issues or not, I’d recommend you pick up this book. You’re sure to learn something useful from it.” —Fab, Shocks and Shoes “This book distinguishes itself from others of the same type by laying out specific guidelines for developing the self-discipline that allows you to start and complete important tasks in sequence. Each of the 21 chapters offers clear instructions and practice exercises to help you determine if you are making the best use of your time at any given moment. You’ll learn how to prepare yourself mentally and physically to tackle the task at hand, along with strategies for dividing it into manageable segments to keep you moving forward. You’ll even find out what to tell yourself to do if you’re having trouble getting started, or become distracted and need to get back on track.” —Carnegie Library Business Librarians, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

This book is much more about "best practices" for productivity vs overcoming procrastination. ("The Now Habit" by Niel Fiore is a much better resource on understanding and overcoming procrastination.) Nonetheless, "Eat That Frog" is a timeless collection of useful productivity tips. It's a quick read on fundamental principles of time-management. Clearly laid-out for quick reading and reference. As a professional guru on "productivity," I didn't learn anything new, but I enjoyed the stories, metaphors, and analogies used to make important points. I also believe in reviewing solid principles frequently.I would recommend this book to young and seasoned professionals who are looking to make the best use of their time and energy.
In Eat that Frog, Tracy takes the concept for his book from the famous quote of Mark Twain, which is: "Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day."“Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.â€The whole idea is If we can eat the "task" or "goal" we have always wanted to achieve right in the morning, then the rest of the day will be smooth. Tracy helps you to discover what is really what you wanting to accomplish, how to get rid of hinderances, and to do the thing you have always wanted to do. The book is broken down into 21 chapters, that are extremely applicable and life changing if we really put them into practice. Reading the book on it's own won't change you. You have to take the initiative to eat your frog. The crazy thing is that this book is about procrastination, but has a lot of powerful truths that are about leadership. I think that's why I enjoyed this book so much. It didn't just target my love to achieve goals, but my heart to be a good leader who won't just sit around and do nothing. This is really hard for me to do, but here are just 3 quotes that impacted me:Chapter 2 - Consider the Consequences: "Successful people are those who are willing to delay gratification and make sacrifices in the short term so that they can enjoy far greater rewards in the long-term"Chapter 9 - Prepare Thoroughly Before You Begin: "The biggest enemies we have to overcome on the road to success are not a lack of ability and a lack of opportunity but fears of failure and rejection and the doubts that they trigger. The only way to overcome your fears is "to do the thing you fear," as Emerson wrote "and the death of fear is certain."Chapter 16 - Motivate Yourself To Action: "Most of your emotions, positive or negative, are determined by how you talk to yourself on a minute-to-minute basis. It is not what happens to you but the way you interpret the things that are happening to you that determines how you feel. Your version of events largely determines whether these events motivate or de-motivate you, whether they were energized or de-energize you."So, if you are looking for a book that will give you a good kick of motivation, with tons of practical tools. I highly recommend Eat That Frog!
I read this book in a day. I'm not an avid reader or a speed reader but this book is so fluid I just kept reading. I knew I needed to get my act together. I couldn't get started. I had the motivation but pooped out half way through every attempt. I procrastinated living for almost 3 years after an unexpected life event and I was sick of it. I wasn't a hoarder or a slob, I just let papers pile up, didn't file things or really finish any project I started. This simple easy book did the trick. Follow the rules and your whole life will begin to clear up. I was able to do more work in 24 hours than in almost 3 years. The concepts are easy, and most people know them, you just need to apply them in the right order, with the right mindset, and that's part of what the book teaches you. Take a chance, read the book!
This concept is more visual and speaks to my creative imagery! It's become quite a mantra when faced with a task that is necessary, but often left incomplete at the end of the day, week, month... You get the picture! When something comes up, it's like I become my own cheerleader: EAT that Frog! I've been listening to Brian Tracy's concepts on YouTube which enhances what I am learning. This book utilizes everything productive from "7 Habits" to Zig Ziglar with a few other in between! It's as if all those other programs' best concepts were bundled into one tasty meal, just for me (or those procrastinators like me).Yes, I was aware of previous methods for gaining success, but as with all fast food burger joints, I hadn't found my hang out, until now! I liked the simplicity and ease of Brian's writing and approach. I ate this frog in little pieces, having downloaded it to my Kindle app, which I use on my phone. Whenever I found myself with 15-30 minutes of 'time'. I would pull it up and read. I even got some great ideas for other references. But, my favorite part: Eat That Frog isn't associated with a Shoe Maker! I don't have to 'just do it' anymore! So boring and lifeless. I can be much more active and removed from the marketing image!!I now have frogs around the office to remind me of my goals. Some of them even have their own "name tags" (the goal).
