If you’re a builder, and have time on your hands, this book might be for you. THe concept is interesting. But the promise of a much cheaper greenhouse depends upon how you look at it. They list materials as costing over $4000. Plus the time to design and build, and hope your design (and all the nitty gritty details) result in a functional and efficient greenhouse. Personally, I’ll go for a “Growing Dome†kit. About twice the cost, yes, but a huge time-saver, and the details and kinks have long since been worked out.
good ideas, lots of info... but you really have to sift through the conversational approach-- lots and lots of it-- and then, there isn't really much concrete plans/info. I'd recommend it for someone with lots of get in and get it done know-how, but for a beginner hoping to make this thing... well, it's not a one size fits all! (Which there really isn't!)
I just bought some land with an existing earth sheltered greenhouse and thought I would bring it back to life. This book is amazingly helpful, it is filled with hands on tips, real life examples which are simply and clearly explained (and illustrated) and is written with love. Thank you!
This book as a few really good ideas and I wish it had more fleshed out plans. It hints at some problems, but doesn't really give much direction on where to look for solutions. The base concept of the book is very worthy of further work, perhaps another author can carry this idea to further practical applications.
Some excellent ideas but could have reduced size of the book to fifteen pages. There was a lot of information about mistakes and destructive gophers. Cold sink, heat loss prevention, CO2 needs and insect control were great.
I bought this book to learn a little about greenhouses and cheap alternatives to expensive fancy greenhouses. this book is easy to understand and they really do cover the basic information I needed and also answers some questions I never even thought of to ask.
He doesn't waste time talking about stuff that doesn't apply. If you have any desire to build a greenhouse you should read this first.
i really love this book and cant wait to start on a project once i pick my site (maybe i'll make two!). This will be a nice smaller project with some different thought into it that i really like. my friends have looked through this book and have volunteered to help when the time comes.
