Do not read this book in a public place.Because it will make you cry. It hit me in the details, in places where I least expected it.Many books have been written about depression. And where some books failed, My Heart and Other Black Holes didn’t. It didn’t come off as dramatic. It wrote depression for what it really is and the harsh reality that comes with it.“Anyone who has actually been that sad can tell you that there's nothing beautiful or literary or mysterious about depression.”I have friends who suffer from depression and I worry about them. I know I can never imagine half of what they’re going through but this book gave me a peek at what’s inside.This is a story about two people who want to die. And is it wrong to say that I understand why they do? Life can sometimes be cruel and there’s nothing we can do to stop it. It hurts to know someone is suffering and no matter how much you want to make things better for them, you can’t.What I loved most about this book are Aysel and Roman. Sure, they are not the most like-able characters but they were written in such a way that you will accept them for who they are. No pretensions, just their real selves and it isn’t always pretty. And that’s okay.This is not a love story. There is no romance here, only love and hope. This is about finding people who understand you and accepts you as you are. This is about fighting even when you no longer want to. This is about finding reasons to live. And I hope you do. I hope every single day, you do.

A relatable quick read that skips around and tastes like Whoppers.This a 3 that should be a 2.5, but I'm too much of a wimp to do that. Before I even started this book, I was slightly rooting for them to... die. Or, mostly Ronan. I'm not morbid, I just didn't want them both to necessarily survive.I also believe that something is wrong when all you can do is imagine the leading main character with an 8-year-olds voice.The story seemed to skip around, and lost the central voice of the story, the main reason Ayzel wanted to commit suicide. The two main characters relationship also sped up very quickly. It went from a 4 to a 9.This story was like wanting a Snickers but you could only get some Whoppers (the chocolate malt bakey things). If you're easily pacified with quick read (2 hours, tops) then knock yourself out with this book.The main reason my rating isn't a 2 is because I found it quite realistic. Being around the same age group, I was able to relate to multiple characters. And there you have it. Thanks for reading.

Kudos to Jasmine Warga for being able to capture the authenticity and essence of a depressed/suicidal 16 year old girl, meeting a depressed/suicidal 17 year old boy and falling in love. I haven't been 16 for quite some time (I am 29) but reading this novel made me recall some of those utterly painful, confusing, intense, coming of age feelings. How powerful love used to be, and is. How powerful sadness can be, and is. It was excellent writing and a great story. I thoroughly enjoyed being a reader who was witnessing first love when the characters were unaware of it, and how heartbreaking it felt when gloom and external/internal conflict were challenging the new relationship. My Heart and Other Black Holes is thought-provoking, has memorable characters and a ton of really awesome quotes that you will be highlighting/sharing with others/repeating to yourself for weeks after reading.It's difficult to praise the details of the book without giving too much away because the ending really should not be known until you discover it yourself. The subject matter is difficult and even though this book is marketed towards Young Adults, I am not sure I would encourage every young adult to read it. Suicide can not be glamorized or made to be anything less serious than it is. While the author accurately portrayed depression and suicidal thoughts, I feel like a young adult reader COULD (if already dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts) romanticize suicide and depression. Instead of deterring the reader or encouraging them to seek help and guidance, it COULD influence them to glorify their depression/suicidal thoughts. It is so easy to be influenced as a young adult reader.With that disclaimer, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would read it again as it is a relatively quick and beautifully written, yet easy, read.

Compared assumptions formed while reading this book with the government FAFSA predictor and they came out completely different. This left me dissatisfied and mistrusting the book. When I do my final FAFSA next year I will change my review if it comes out as suggested by the book.

Tracy Foote's book is an excellent easy to read and understand resource to tackle the complex subject of student aid for college. Upon ordering it from amazon, I received this very helpful book in just a few days, and it will help me save thousands of dollars in college tuition and expenses. Although my son is a high school senior, I regret that I did not read this when my child was a high school FRESHMAN so that I could have even more effectively planned to maximize his financial aid for college. There is a lot of information that everyone should know in the upside down world of financial aid bureaucracy. Tracy Foote explains and organizes it very well!

This is an excellent guide to filling out the FAFSA and looking for scholarships.I would never have thought of some of these ideas.

I got this too late...had already filled out the FAFSA. But I will use it for my other kids when it's their time for college.

This book is a great reference to answer that question "how to pay for college". It helps navigate and understand the frustrating but now unfortunately required FAFSA process and other financial savings and aid possibilities. The author discusses why the system works as it does and what financial options work best for families in their individual situations. When I brought the book to a college planning night at school, other parents were interested in getting the book.While the bulk of this book gives clear examples in a straight forward manner, I was laughing uproariously as I read the preface - clearly the author has been through the college application/reality moment of the cost with her daughter. I've experienced this and seen other parents struggle with this issue as well. The author helps parents be the grounding force that encourages students to spread their wings for their college dreams, but still find the options that avoid family debt. My sophomore grade son even enjoyed reading a bit of it as he'd seen our family go through a similar scholarship application parent/student disconnect that the author mentions in the preface. Fortunately, placing emphasis on such applications helped our oldest son garner a scholarship that is significantly helping with his tuition.I wish I'd gotten this book sooner as I was struggling through the FAFSA/scholarship/savings process. The book is a hit for those doing the planning and filling out those college forms.

In plain English how the city works. Fun and informative

I am a resident, not a tourist. The book has information that most locals do not know. Let me give an example. ATMs in Latin America can be "touchy", often refusing to dispense money. You quickly learn which ones have mean streaks and which do their jobs. Two months ago I returned to Antigua from a trip to Chiapas. To my surprise, I could not use my debit card in my two favorite reliable spots in Antigua. About this time, I bought Michael Sherer's book. It details a simple and effective way of overcoming this problem without resorting on Western Union, PayPal, cash from friends/relatives, etc. The value of this hack was worth to me at least 25 times more than the cost of the book. Great inside information on culture, restaurants, things to do, places to go, etc. Any complaints? Yes. The publisher needs to let Sherer add an index to assist in locating information.

I am a long-time resident of Antigua, which is, by the way, one of the world's great towns. I know our pueblo well, or thought I did until I read Michael's book. I was impressed with his research, accuracy, and awareness of so much here that I didn't know about. Useful, interesting and well-written in a lively writing style that had me finish the book in one reading. If you are coming to visit, this book will definitely make your trip more enriching. If you live here, read it and you will probably be surprised by how you don't know. And if you live here and have guests visit, stick this book in their hands and you have done all you need to do to insure they have a great visit.

With this book Michael proves that he knows Antigua better than anybody else. I can confirm that whatever is written in the book is as far as I know it, exactly how Michel is describing it.This book is a " Must read " for everybody who wants to stay longer than just a few Days. Love Dee Henderson. This the collection of all of the O'MALLEY series. As in any series you may have a favorite and I do as well but it doesn't matter because everyone of these books are incredible. Each book could be read as a stand alone but why stop at just one. You will be craving the next story before you finish the one you are reading. From the prequel to the finale you won't want to put it down. I love the concept of a family raised in an orphanage and became their own family. Later changing their name so that they could always be united if not by blood then by choice. Good clean Christian stories with great characters, mystery and love. Definitely a must read.

Dee Henderson writes well. The best part is her research of the professions, lifestyles, and situations of her characters. A person can learn a lot about what it really means to be a policeman, fire fighter, EMT, etc.... How it feels and what the stresses are. I work with people in these fields and Henderson describes it very well! I appreciate the complex interactions and developing relationships between the characters. There are no explicit sex scenes. She skillfully weaves auras of violence and impending disaster without the stomach turning graphic descriptions. There is also the constant reminder that God and faith are important issues and can be deal breakers in a relationship. On the other hand, there is no "Bible thumping" to make the reader feel like certain views about religion are being slipped into the mix.

Absolutely LOVE The O'Malley Collection!! I have read all of Dee Henderson's books and The O'Malleys hold a very special place in my heart. Dee Henderson has presented a wonderful family that is always there for each other, even though each member of the family were brought together in an unconventional means. The depth of each story line as well as each character truly holds your interest. If there were 10 stars, I would give this a 10 in a second!!

I am so glad I got this whole set together. I would finish one book and just keep on going to the next one! Henderson writes the kind of suspense I enjoy reading - enough pauses to relax, good romance interwoven with the nail-biting scenes, etc. Her characters became friends, and I hated to come to the end of the whole series. Now she needs to write about all their kids :-) I highly recommend this series!

This is the third time for me reading all the O'Malley books. It has been long enough that I couldn't remember exactly what happened --so that was really fun. I'm sad to have them finished. I've bought the whole set of these books for my 30-something niece and for my 96-year-old mother in law (who both loved them). Interesting characters, wonderful relationships, plots that keep you wondering; these books have it all. You can buy each book separately but I loved getting the digital version of all of them together.

I loved these books and wished they would continue. I loved the characters, the trials they had, the amazing ways God was brought into the stories as well. I also loved the fact the other characters that we read previously were included in the new stories. I felt a part of the family and the men were strong and likable.

Great series and I love how her other books in other series tie in to the characters you fall in love with in this series. I donated the series to a church library years ago and rebought them on my kindle recently. As a former EMT I loved Steven's story as his feelings of burnout are relatable. I love how close knit the characters are and that the story continues to build through out the series. Dee is one of my favorite authors.

This collection of the stories of each of the O'Malleys is wonderful. It has great characters, suspense, and romance with the message of the Gospel sprinkled throughout. These are entertaining and nourishing books.
