Powerful and compelling piece of writing on shamanism.This book introduces shamanic practices in a way that the seasoned veteran or novice can gain insight and benefit.What I found entirely fascinating is how the authors presented the material and noting that shamanism is the original spiritual practice on the planet long before religion took root and advanced its dominating control over the masses. As they note, shamanic practices continue to flourish and survive on the planet because it is the original grass roots phenomenon and the original spirituality void of the need for an intermediary between oneself and spirit. As they so eloquently note, "anthropological studies have revealed that shamans are actually the most productive, stable, and productive members of their communities."This is a book of inner work and of listening to one's own inner truth without filter, social mandate, or hegemony of standards imposed by the status quo of cultural elites who think they can dominate your own values.The book additionally offers contemporary practices that can jump start your own inner knowing.One of the best books I have read on shamanic development.
I'm really glad I ordered this book! It's the first book on shamanism that I purchased, & it includes over 50 step-by-step shamanic journeys for a variety of purposes. I have been practicing journeys daily, & feel prepared and confident, since I have this book! I look forward to decades of wonderful journeys to help myself and others.
I love this book because it offers pratical exercises for anyone who wants to get into shamanism. I tried other books Sandra and etc and all it did was bore me to the point I started to fall asleep while reading the book. Going on and on about how we have a duty for this and that and made shamanism more of a chore.
This is a great book but I feel it is sometimes a little short on the details for my taste. I have supplemented its lack of basic details with Micheal Drakes The Shamanic Drum for input into actual drum and rattle routines should proceed.
Read the book first,Then with practice of the exercises you will be amazed at what you can do and how it opens your horizon.
I love this book. It is clear and to the point. I keep it in my purse or car to read when I can. I wish they had a kindle version.
A wonderful manual for everyone on a self discovery journey.
